Bright Top & Biker Boots

I know I've said it before, but I'll say again....I love Jessica Alba's style so much!!!  It's just so incredibly effortless and she always looks so comfortable.  Dressed up or down, she always nails it.  In this picture, Jessica is wearing 7 for all Mankind Destroyed  jeans with a yellow sweater and biker boots.  Jessica usually adds color in her outfit somewhere, and here she added it with her bright yellow sweater.  I will admit, there isn't anything particularly stunning about this outfit-and yet, I love it! Sometimes, I just want to throw on a top and jeans really quick and still look put together, and this outfit that she is wearing does that for me.  Actually, a lot of her outfits give off that vibe.  I had to add a black scarf though because if I'm going to wear different colors, something has to match somewhere!

Head to Toe Blue

Essence Magazine's April 2013 issue features Tia and Tamera Mowry, two actresses I've loved since their days on "Sister Sister".  They show Tia and Tamera in these awesome blue outfits and I immediately zeroed in on Tia's.  I love head to toe color (just as long as you add another color in there somewhere like your bag or accessories) and Tia looks really nice in this Calvin Klein suit.  The statement necklace adds another color to the outfit so it's not so matchy.  Before I saw this outfit, I was looking at mys sweater and trousers I had in this cobalt blue color and thought about pairing them together.  However, I decided against it because I thought I would look like a blueberry! After seeing Tia's outfit, I thought she looked like a pretty blueberry, so I figured I'd just wear my pieces together anyway.  I'm sure I looked like a blueberry too, but I'm a cute blueberry so who cares :)

Leather Vest & Trumpet Hems

This fash-n-spiration is based on two big trends from fall 2012-leather moto vests and trumpet hemlines.  The leather vest was seen on many celebrities last year, including Jessica Alba, who was spotted wearing hers often.  I like how she makes her look effortlessly cool.

The trumpet hemlines were shown on the fall 2012 runways of Stella McCartney, Etro, and DKNY.  I would say they kind of remind me of a low-hanging, exaggerated peplum.  I'm a sucker for flouncy skirts(they make you look like the wind is blowing around you contantly), so this trend made me take notice.  I doubt I'll actually go out and buy another piece with this hemline because though nothing in fashion is really new and this hemline has had its moments before, it still seems too trendy for me and I don't see it sticking around for a long time.*shrugs*

Here are some examples:

Anyways, the good news for me is that I did not have to go and purchase either of these pieces because I already had similar items. (I'm always amazed at the forgotten treasures I have in my closet!) Both of these items were purchased in 2010 and were'nt as trendy then.  I remember pencil skirts, maxi lengths, and body cons being the preferred silhouettes.  Vests had a big moment around 2007 or 2008 but I think people still saw leather as "rocker" so it didn't catch on as much.  Now that I've seen how others style it, I went for it.  I added black thigh-high boots because the place where the hemline fell made my legs look funny when I paired it with pumps.  I was pleased how my "forgotten treasures" came together :)
(P.S-I know you can't see the hemline as good in my pic ("selfies" are HARD), but you get the point!)

OLDIES: Carrie Bradshaw's Tulle Skirt

This oldie is an outfit that was inspired by Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw.   This was the final episode of the series and is one of my favs because Big finally realizes that Carrie is the one and goes all the way to Paris to find her and bring her back to NY. (It's so romantic and it always makes me cry when I watch the episode). When he finally sees her, Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) is wearing her signature tulle (tutu) skirt in a gorgeous seafoam green.  The minute I saw this look, I made a mental note that if I ever came across a skirt like this, I would buy it no matter the cost.  Well, fortunately for me, the cost was only $27.80 at Forever 21.  FYI, if you want to be trendy and not break the bank, Forever 21 is a great place to go.  I swear they always have the latest trends within weeks of their runway debuts!!  I loved that a blazer was added to this look.  It brought polish and sophistication to a big, colorful, fun skirt.  I originally wore this skirt for Easter 2011 (the violet and lavender combo seemed fitting for Easter) with a white blazer and glittery gray platform sandals.  This time, I decided to go a bit simpler and just add a tank, cardigan, and platform pumps, and big curls (which kept aggravating me because it was so windy that day!).
*P.S. I apologize for the blurriness of the first pic...sometimes you just can't get it right no matter how hard you try lol

OLDIES:Rodarte for Target Lace Print Dress

So I haven't been that inspired lately by some the trends and outfits I've seen online and in magazines.  The ones I have seen are spring/summer outfits, so I can't really wear them yet.  To make up for the lack of inspiration, I've decided to do "Oldies", which are looks that were inspired by something and worn previously by me before I started this blog.  That way, when I'm not feeling inspired, I can still blog :)  So, this "Oldie" is a dress I purchased in 2011.  It is a Rodarte for Target Lace Print Dress.  I got it when Target re-released looks from their past designer collaborations.  I missed it when it came out in 2009, so I was SOOO happy when this dress was chosen as one of the 34 they decided to bring back.  I have a picture of the original advertisement of the dress and Rachel McAdams in hers.  I noticed that both have bare legs and Rachel even has sandals with hers.  I don't know why, but I would never wear this dress in the summer.  I think it looks better with tights and is better suited for fall/winter.  So,I paired mine with a black top, black tights, and black booties.  I had to add the black belt to accentuate my waist because it didn't do anything for my body without a belt.  I love when Target has designer collabs and I loveeeeee this dress!
