Navy + Black

The navy and black combination popped up a lot on the Fall 2012 runways. This is an interesting trend to me because there were two color combinations my mom told me to never put together- brown + black and navy +black.  But as we all know, all the rules are being ignored lately in fashion.  People are layering summer clothes and adding tights, rocking yellows and oranges in the dead of winter, and wearing white all year round.  So part of my inspiration comes from this trend.

The other inspiration comes from Beyonce at the 2010 Grammys.  When she performed in this Fall 2009 Atelier Versace dress, I absolutely fell in love with the dress and the peep toe Giuseppe Zanotti ankle boots.  Once I saw this, I went out that year and bought ankle boots because I wasn't a fan before (I felt they cut the leg off at a weird spot) and later last year, I bought an a-line skirt that incorporated the navy and black trend.  (I know this outfit isn't a dead ringer for Beyonce's, but I took elements from it like the flare of the skirt and the ankle boots). I could see myself wearing more navy and black.  It looks good together.  Mom was wrong (lol).

Colored Lace

Lately, I have seen quite a few celebrities in lace-colored lace specifically.  And since I'm a fan of color, this is a trend I love and wanted to try.  Upon browsing one of my favorite clothing websites,, I came across two lace skirts that I felt I had to have in my life.  I was in the middle of trying to decide which one I should add to my cart, when it dawned on me that I actually have a similar lace pencil skirt in my closet.  So I went and looked, and....I did (lol) I actually completely forgot about this skirt.  I purchased it in like 2010.  So I ended up saving myself money.  I did take a cue from the way they paired blush with creams and nudes.

30 Days of Denim Inspiration: Poncho

People Style Watch did a feature called "30 Days of Denim" in which they recycled two or three pairs of jeans and gave the reader a month's worth of outfits.  This particular shot caught my eye because of the poncho.  I had a black poncho that I purchased last year but never wore.  It was one of those purchases that I bought thinking I would do something different, but because it was so out of my comfort zone, it ended up sitting with the tag still on it...until I saw this pic.  I also love how she added the legwarmers to give a different vibe to the shearling boots. Everything about this outfit-from the colors, to the accessories, to the coziness, is a winner to me.
